“Due to modern lifestyle and genetic dispositions liver diseases are escalating in the cities” said Dr RV Raghavender Rao, a renowned surgical gastroenterologist.
Speaking about liver diseases at National Institute of Gastroenterology, Domalguda, on Wednesday, he expressed his concern over the lack of awareness about these diseases among public. He said liver cancer is another growing threat for many people irrespective of their age, even small children are falling prey to liver cancers.
“Apart from practicing unhealthy lifestyle trends, drinking habit also causes liver diseases” he added.
“Recently I treated nine-year-old Charan and four-year-old Balaji. Both of them were suffering from liver cancer.
Parents of Balaji, came from Amalapuram, had little knowledge about liver cancer. They were worried about the health of their kid. Balaji was diagnosed with liver cancer. We conducted a surgery on the kid and it was fruitful. We could remove the tumor from his body. Now, the kid is recovering. Timely intervention has saved the kid” told Dr Raghavender Rao.
In today’s era, one does not have to fear liver diseases and cancers. Many advanced treatments are available now. All one needs to consider is timely treatment. It indeed gives the patient a new lease of life, especially for liver cancer. I believe awareness and education in both urban as well as rural areas on liver diseases must be spread” said Dr Raghavender Rao.
The parents of the two children expressed their gratitude towards the doctor and his team for saving their children’s lives.
