Colon Cancer

The rear part in our digestive system is called colon. The polyps formed in rear part of large intestine and excess growth of cells in that are the reasons for colon cancer. It is better to get them removed. The exact reasons although are not known , just like other cancers, gene mutations, obese people, red meat eaters, consuming less fiber, alcohol, smoking habits, taking radiation for other cancers, cronsey disease like things are the reasons for this cancer to some extent.

This cancer is more conspicuous in developed countries. Colorectal cancer is seen more in our country, and especially in rural areas. This cancer is much more in men and women aged 60 years and over. The prominent symptoms of colon , colorectal cancer are;-
1. Indigestion or lose motions.
2. Changes in night soil, excretion.
3. Bloody night soil, bleeding signs .
4. Pain in lower abdomen with stiffness, formation of gas.
5. Excruciating pain during excretion.
6. Fatigue, losing weight without any cause.
7. Irritable bowel syndrome.(IBS)

If these cancer symptoms are ignored, risk is more in spreading to liver. (Metastasis )

If any polyps are seen with the help of camera, they will be removed and sent for biopsy to confirm this cancer. If cancer cells are confirmed in biopsy, stage will be known through T N M system. Treatments will be decided after chest x-ray, ultrasound, C.T scan, CEA tests.

Prevention:- This cancer can be kept at distance to some extent if Sygmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, like tests are undergone as per doctor’s advice with sane life style and healthy food habits.

When bleeding is noticed in faeces , it should not be mistaken as piles and proper tests should be conducted to confirm the problem.

Even if cancer is noticed belatedly, patient’s lease of life can be extended with medicines like Monocloral.
