The Muslim United Front (MUF) demanded the State government to set up a Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine (CRIUM) and Government Unani hospitals along with colleges in Vijayawada.

“The Central government allotted Rs 20 crore under AYUSH, especially for the development of Unani medical system in Andhra Pradesh and also increased the budget for AYUSH department by 36 per cent this year.

The State government should utilise the funds and set up Unani educational institutes and hospitals in the state,” demanded MUF president Habeebur Rahman.

“Most of the Unani hospitals and colleges are located in Telangana. The State government should establish CRIUM, National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM) and two government Unani hospital-cum-colleges in Andhra Pradesh. A 250-bedded government Unani hospital attached to a college should also be set up in the capital region,” he added.

MUF secretary Feroz Ahmed informed that MUF was ready to get 10 acres of Wakf land sanctioned for setting up of CRIUM and Unani hospital. He said that Wakf land was available at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada which can be used for the cause.

“The government should take measures to establish at least 10 Unani dispensaries in each district of the State,” he added.
