Rain dashes hopes of Swine flu exit The sudden dip in temperatures has dashed the hopes of medical experts who hoped for a marked reduction in H1N1 cases with the days getting hotter, particularly after the Mahashivaratri festival.

It is back to the scary swine flu mornings and evenings as mercury dipped again during week end with low depression on east coast bringing back the chill and cold winds.


The sudden dip in temperatures has dashed the hopes of medical experts who hoped for a marked reduction in H1N1 cases with the days getting hotter, particularly after the Mahashivaratri festival. But there has been no respite even after ten days of the festival and change in Rohini nakshstram as per the Hindu almanac.


The strong winds, cloudy weather and rain that are lashing the Telangana districts since Saturday could trigger another bout of swine flu cases, said Dr K. Narsimulu, nodal officer at Gandhi Hospital.


He fears that low temperatures are most suitable for the virus to thrive. The cold weather allows the virus to sustain longer. There would be another round of flu cases next week. For this reason, it is important for people to continue taking all the in built precautions like masks and hand wash, he said.


On Sunday as many as 35 people suspected of swine flu virus were undergoing treatment at the Gandhi Hospital. So far over 50 persons have died and nearly 2000 suspected of H1N1 virus have been treated. All the nine IPS probationers affected by swine flu virus are also recovering, says a Government release.
