Removing uterus is always perceived to be a painful thing, as it comes along with risks of hernia. Recent advancements in science have lead to the introduction of laparoscopic hysterectomy. It is a technology used to remove uterus, which doesn’t involve pain and doesn’t carry with it the risk of hernia.

Speaking about laparoscopic hysterectomy, which is not known to many people, laparoscopic surgeon of Apollo Hospital Dr Vinutha Reddy and gynaecology consultant Dr UV Rohini shared the advantages of laparoscopic hysterectomy and why should people prefer for uterus removal.
“The process causes negligible pain to the patient and just three hours post operation, the patient is allowed to walk around. Risk of infection is less since the process involves no cutting and tissue dissection unlike open surgery,” said Vinutha Reddy. She also added that laparoscopic hysterectomy is the choice for obese patients as there is low risk of infection and hernia.
Dr Rohini said that the patients undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomy can be discharged the same day as the process is free of all infections unlike an open surgery. “There is no bar for laparoscopic hysterectomy. Any person having undergone any operation in the past can freely undergo the operation as it doesn’t hamper the patient’s health,” the doctor concluded.
