The Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram, is organizing a two-day International Orthopedic Conference -2016 titled “Total Hip Replacement : Present and Future”.
The conference is being attended by eminent Orthopaedic surgeons from India and abroad. The conference will focus on approaches to total hip replacement, hip reconstruction in the young, hip preservation surgeries and the principles of Sai Ideal Healthcare namely Universalization of healthcare, Globalization of healthcare, Human Values in Healthcare and Spiritualization of healthcare.
The highlights of the conference are live surgeries, workshops, instructional course lectures and debates. The faculty at the conference include Dr Jim Sullivan, Australian School of Advanced Medicine, Macquaire University, Sydney Australia, Dr Kujan Nagaratnam, Clinical Senior Lecturer Medicine, Westmead Clinical School, Sydney, Australia, Dr Ramesh Sen, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon and Director of Fortis Hospital, Chandigarh to name a few.
In his address, Trustee, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust (SSSCT), Sri R J Rathnakar said that the Orthopaedic department of the hospital has done a great service to the humanity, which is thereby reflecting the purpose of Sri Sathya Sai Health Care Mission. “ The Sri Sathya Sai Health Care Mission is all about giving care with love and compassion to the needy, he said and added that one aspect of this healthcare which makes every person working in these institutions proud was that none of them had a billing department. Sri Rathnakar also brought forth the fact to the audience that recently the hospital had received the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation, which highlights the fact that though the hospital is providing free healthcare it is of top most quality.
Further elaborating on the quality healthcare being provided by the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, the Secretary of SSSCT, Sri Prasada Rao said that practice of human values in a human life adds quality to it. “Without quality added to human life there is no human life,” he said. Addressing the delegates Sri Prasada Rao said, “In our attempts to achieve excellence in our own subjects, we study and gain knowledge and skills all this is necessary, but necessary things can get converted into a useful life only with the grace of the Divine.”
Speaking on the occasion the in-charge Director of SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, Dr Neelam Desai said that some 25 years ago the land where SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, is currently standing was just a barren piece of land, but with the grace of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba got transformed into a Temple of Healing, which has benefited lakhs of patients from India and abroad, thereby establishing the hospital as a model in healthcare. Elaborating about the principles of Bhagawan Baba’s Healthcare, of Universalisation of healthcare, Globalisation of healthcare, Human Values in Healthcare and Spiritualization of healthcare, she said that in this day and age of commercial healthcare these values need to be made the foundation of any healthcare setup.
Earlier the Director of SSSIHMS, Whitefield and the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics, Dr D C Sundaresh in his welcome address to the delegates said that the current conference was the seventh such conference organized since the inception of the Department of Orthopedics in 2006. Taking about SSSIHMS, Dr Sundaresh said that the hospitals at Prasanthigram and Whitefield were established by Bhagawan Baba to provide free and quality health care to all the patients and especially the needy and with the best quality equipment.” We get a very clear message from this that charitable service has to maintain quality and that we carry back from here some concept of charity into our own day to day practices,” he said.
