Bangalore : In an attempt to improve the outcome of cardiac surgeries, Vatsalya- Centre for Oral Health in collaboration with the ENR Foundation conducts a two- week massive campaign on oral health for under-privileged children with cardiac issues. As part of this program that has been running for the last five years, the children went through free dental screening and treatment at Vatsalya – Centre for Oral Health.

ENR Foundation is a German based organization working with under-privileged children with cardiac disorders. Oral health directly impacts the outcomes of heart surgeries. Dental infection can seep down to the heart and result in infective endocarditis (inflammation of the inner tissues of the heart), which can be fatal. It was with this thought that Vatsalya- Centre for Oral Health and ENR Foundation came together a few years back to ensure the success of heart surgeries through a comprehensive oral care treatment.

This is the 41st group of children who have visited Vatsalya- Center for Oral Health for their dental care service from ENR Foundation. Over 25 children, suffering from cardiac related issues are handpicked by the foundation across India and brought to Bangalore accompanied by their parents. The children are first taken to Vatsalya, where a team led by Dr Srivats Bharadwaj, Founder and Chairman, Vatsalya- Center for Oral Care treat the children to ensure that they are rid of any dental infections before going for the heart surgery. Subsequently, the children are taken to Dr Hetal Mehta, a Pediatric Cardiologist and Dr Joseph Xavier, a Cardiac Specialist and surgeon for their heart check- up and surgeries.

Dr Srivats Bharadwaj together with Dr Hetal Mehta, Dr JosephXavier and the ENR foundation have helped over 500 children, giving them a new lease of life. “We at Vatsalya- Center for Oral Health are committed to ensuring that the right kind of approach and treatment with world class infrastructure is available to the poorest of the poor in the country. Children are our future and therefore it becomes extremely critical to ensure that they have proper access to best of treatment and clinical expertise available with us. Dental health is one of the most relevant challenges that healthcare is facing today. Our aim is to improve the dental health of the population across all the income groups and ensure a healthy ecosystem overall,” said Dr Srivats Bharadwaj.
