In today’s world, where appearances run supreme, everyone wants a better body, a glowing skin and a perfect face. Result: while large MNCs thrive, for mankind it spells doom as we continue to ingest toxins ‘with pleasure’ through our so-called fad diets, chemical-laced cosmetics and damaging body altering techniques.

I have detailed the various chemicals in day-to-day products, their effects on the body and ways to eliminate them in the book, Sanatan Kriya Ageless Dimension.
It is essential that we inculcate a habit of not only regularly cleansing our bodies externally & internally, but also ensuring that through the process diseases are kept at bay.

For the benefit of the reader, I quote here the tried and tested cleansing technique, especially in the present wet season, Jal Neti.

Jal Neti or nasal cleansing is an ancient vedic technique handed down to us thousands of years ago by our vedic seers, and now popularly coined by the West as Nasal Irrigation.

Benefits: It is highly effective in ridding the body of flu viruses (particularly prevalent during Monsoons) from the nasal tract before they enter the blood stream and cause life threatening diseases.

When followed in routine, Jal Neti increases body’s defense mechanism to fight off nasal and throat infections. For people who travel a lot in polluted environments or are suffering from problems like asthma and a weak respiratory system, it gives a lot of relief and successfully combats the allergens causing such conditions.

This technique helps not only cleanse the system but also slow down the ageing process.

Steps
Take 500ml bearably warm water in a neti pot, add 1tsp black/rock salt and a pinch of turmeric. Stand evenly and bending slightly forward tilt the head at 45degrees angle towards left. Insert the nozzle of the pot into the right nostril. While breathing normally from the mouth, tilt the pot so that the water runs into the right nostril and flows out from the left. Repeat on the other side. Breathe normally afterwards. Saline water is the best cleansing medium, which absorbs and scrapes away infectious pathogens accumulated in the nasal passage. Turmeric is disinfectant, antiseptic and scouring agent.

After the neti, put a few drops of desi ghee in your nostril. One needs to lie down for ten to fifteen minutes after this. Daily practice of jalneti keeps flus and colds at bay, as has been the experience of sadhaks at Dhyan Ashram.
