Hyderabad: It is good news for newborn babies and pregnant women. On the occasion of Telangana Formation Day on June 2, the State government will formally launch ‘KCR Kits’ scheme which is intended to provide financial assistance to the poor women during prenatal and postnatal stages and kits consisting of baby soaps, diapers, etc. to the newborn babies.


Holding a daylong meeting with the District Collectors here on Monday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said under the scheme, Rs 14,000 (Rs 12,000 plus Rs 2,000 worth KCR kit) would be given to the beneficiaries. If the newborn is a girl, an additional Rs 1,000 assistance will be given.

Arrangements are made for the successful implementation of the KCR Kits Scheme in all 350 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), 102 Area Hospitals and seven Teaching Hospitals where the facilities in the labour wards at these hospitals had been upgraded, he said.

The objective of the scheme is to promote institutional delivery, he said. The scheme would help pregnant woman. According to a data, 6.5 lakh deliveries are taking place in the State, the Chief Minister said. The beneficiaries would have to enrol their names before 12th week of pregnancy.

When the Collectors brought to the notice of the Chief Minister about non-availability of doctors in rural areas, especially in the tribal areas, KCR instructed the Chief Secretary S P Singh to provide incentives to the doctors who are willing to work in the remote areas.

The Chief Minister said a multi-pronged strategy should be chalked out to ensure that doctors and nurses work in remote regions. He also asked the officials concerned to explore the possibility of taking the help of the private institutions too.
