The city police will launch helpline for people suffering from mental disorders such as stress, anxiety and suicidal tendencies on October 10 to mark the World Mental Health Day, according to Commissioner of Police D Gautam Sawang.

Vijayawada: The city police will launch helpline for people suffering from mental disorders such as stress, anxiety and suicidal tendencies on October 10 to mark the World Mental Health Day, according to Commissioner of Police D Gautam Sawang.

He interacted with the media at his chambers on Thursday. He said modern day life is affecting the people's mental health. When one needs solace they make a call to the helpline. Initially, the helpline would be set up at Police Control Room. The helpline would be identified as Mental Health Crisis Intervention Helpline.
To a query, he said U turns on roads at some place were unscientific. But, they have to allow them for free flow of traffic and to avoid other problems. With regard to alignment of road, he said almost all the roads in the city have no alignment, he quipped.

Replying to another query, he said the Police Control Room would be shifted to Command Control Office soon. The PCR would be accommodated in any other office.
He thanked journalists for giving good suggestions with regard to Dasara arrangements. For the first time in temple history, more than 3.3 lakh devotees had darshan of Goddess Durga on Vijaya Dasami day alone.

The police had helped differently-abled persons, elderly, blind and orphans to have darshan by making special arrangements for them. The police also made fool-proof arrangements on 'Moharam', he added.
