Huge Relief For 207 DEd Candidates. In a big relief for 207 DEd candidates, State government has decided to allow them to apply for SGT posts in the DSC examinations that would be conducted in the next three years.
Govt allows age relaxation for the aspirants
Candidates can apply for SGT posts in DSC up to 2016
In a big relief for 207 DEd candidates, State government has decided to allow them to apply for SGT posts in the DSC examinations that would be conducted in the next three years.
The Supreme Court has recently ruled that the candidates should be allowed and relaxation in the upper age limit should be given to all these candidates.
The implementation of Supreme Court judgment- given ten months back- has been kept pending with the department of secondary education. Finally, it was resolved that the candidates to be permitted within the set time frame.
As per the rules, qualifications framed in July 2005, SGTs should be selected through “direct recruitment and each candidate should possess Intermediate certificate issued by the Board of Intermediate Education and DEd Certificate issued by the Director of Government Examinations (or) a Bachelors Degree and a BEd Degree or DEd.”
But during the DSC examinations held in 2006, 2008, State government has disallowed some of the candidates for the SGT posts and ruled out any relaxation for them on age and academic grounds.
The DEd aspirants have protested, organised rallies etc but of no avail. Irriginenin Venkata Krishna, an aspirant along with 206 others then challenged the rules framed in 2006 for the purpose of exams in Supreme Court.
The two-judge bench has finally found merit in the arguments of DEd candidates and directed the State government which has steadfastly opposed the contention of DEd candidates, to allow them compete for SGT posts in the next three years from the date of announcement of next exam.
In fact, the judgment was delivered on January 15 this year but the State government was still adamant to alter the rules. Discussions were held and the Minister for Secondary Education K Parthasarathy asked the officials whether to file a modification petition. Finally, it was agreed to implement the apex court orders.
State government in its orders made it clear that “in view of the orders of the Supreme Court, the action of the Government in allowing BEd candidates to the post of SGT in DSC 2006 and DSC 2008 selections is upheld.
No further action is required with regard to SGT selections in both the earlier DSCs.
However, in view of the relief granted to the applicants the government permitted the 207 applicants who are the D.Ed. candidates to apply for the posts of SGTs in the DSC notifications to be issued by the Government in the next three years from the date of Court orders from January 15, 2013 to January 14, 2016 in relaxation of the upper age limit prescribed by the Government”
