GHMC deletes 4.77 lakh voters from electoral rolls

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner and Hyderabad District Election Officer Somesh Kumar on Saturday confirmed that as many as 4.77 lakh voters were deleted from electoral rolls in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.

Speaking to media persons here, Somesh Kumar said the names were deleted after due verification and issuing notices to the persons concerned.

The persons, whose names were removed from the rolls, did not respond to the notices issued by the GHMC.

The GHMC had identified 27.12 lakh voters as invalid. Some of them had enrolled twice, and some others were either absent or no more.

In some cases, officials had found the doors of the houses of some voters locked. Notices were issued to 25.34 lakh voters in accordance with the directions of the Election Commission of India. After due verification and issue of notices, as many as 4.77 lakh names had been deleted, he added.

The Commissioner said the list of deleted names had been uploaded on Election Commission website. In Greater Hyderabad limits, not less than 1.06 lakhs voters had been enrolled twice, and out of which 53,980 electors were given notices and the names were deleted.

About 65,000 voters, who were no more, had been identified and out of them after due verification as many 22,500 names were deleted, he said. With regard to change of address 16.41 lakh electors were identified and after issuing notices 3.49 lakh names were been deleted.

Nearly 8,76,000 “door lock cases” were found and after due verification, 46,000 names were deleted the Commissioner clarified.
