The ICFAI Law School organised a Law Conclave on Independence of Judiciary: Collegium System at their campus in Hyderabad on Monday. The conclave was attended by students and faculty of the ICFAI Law School. Eminent legal professionals and retired judges attended the conclave and shared their views about the Indian Judicial Collegium system.

Hyderabad: The ICFAI Law School organised a Law Conclave on Independence of Judiciary: Collegium System at their campus in Hyderabad on Monday. The conclave was attended by students and faculty of the ICFAI Law School. Eminent legal professionals and retired judges attended the conclave and shared their views about the Indian Judicial Collegium system.

Hon’ble Justice G Yethirajulu, A Narsimha Reddy– Chairman, Bar Council of AP, Prof GB Reddy of Osmania University, and Senior Advocates Vidya Sagar Rao, L Ravi Chander and Vivek Reddy were some of the experts who attended the seminar and shared their suggestions on bettering the procedure of appointment of Judges to the Higher Judiciary in detail.

All the speakers discussed the issue elaborately and gave suggestions about the Collegium system. All were unanimous that there should be more transparency in the appointment of judges. They suggested that preference should be given to meritorious and experienced candidates and nepotism should be strictly avoided. They also suggested that the Government should also play a role in this process. Justice

“There must be a pre-fixed time schedules for appointment of Judges to avoid delay,” he added. Vivek Reddy, Advocate High Court suggested that the candidates aspiring to chair the higher courts position should have 10 years of relevant experience and they should be fiercely independent. “They should be honest and must have the judicial temperament,” he added.
