13-year old schoolgirl Musfera of Castletown High School, Rajeev Nagar, Hyderabad got selected for 23rd National Children Science Congress presentation to be held at Chandigarh from December27 to 31. Her experiments of carbide free/ biotechnological fruit ripening was presented at Manair High School, Karimnagar during the 23rd state level Congress and is the only project selected from Hyderabad district.

Hyderabad: 13-year old schoolgirl Musfera of Castletown High School, Rajeev Nagar, Hyderabad got selected for 23rd National Children Science Congress presentation to be held at Chandigarh from December27 to 31. Her experiments of carbide free/ biotechnological fruit ripening was presented at Manair High School, Karimnagar during the 23rd state level Congress and is the only project selected from Hyderabad district.

Musfera along with her brother Muzammil Pasha invented a new method of fruit ripening. Her teacher K Janaki Ramulu helped her for her work along with support of Director Bramaraprasad and Principal Cecilia. Musfera was motivated to take this project up as she was moved by the latest comments of High Court judges on carbide ripened fruits, its complications and its continuing wide spread presence in Hyderabad market.

The liquid obtained by fermenting ripened fruit peels with black mould is used for fruit ripening and the results are very much promising, wherein a banana is ripened in 3 days and mangoes in a week’s time. This is first of its kind, carbide free biotechnological fruit ripening, hence, a patent application has also been made.
