With his groovy lyrics and funky beats, 21-year old city-based rapper Sumeet Sharma AKA “Young Sam HYD” flew to fame with his single “Fly shish” airing on national television recently.

“I have always wanted to be featured on TV, especially after seeing the ensemble Indus Gharana getting featured. Luckily, I got what I had been working for; I have now been pushed onto the national scene,” says Sumeet.

“I just want to keep moving forward now,” he adds. A resident of Kothapet, Sumeet got into rapping at the raw age when he was in class 10. The telecast of his single on television comes as a much-needed break what with Sumeet slogging for years to make it big. “Before my music video was telecast,

I performed at college fests and pubs for little or no renumeration. I collected all the money I could and would compose, record and produce my songs at home,” recounts Sumeet, who has now signed a five-year deal with a record label. Having released singles so far, Sumeet has been getting rave reviews from rappers like Kardinal Offishall, Shorty Thug and Young Swift.

Notwithstanding the sudden popularity, Sumeet wants to stay grounded. “Strangers now recognise me and those who thought that I couldn’t achieve anything treat me better,” says the proud rapper, who lives and breathes music. “Music is everything to me. I cannot live without it,” he shares.

“My goal is to represent Hyderabad at the international level. I do this for my city and people,” says Sumeet, who is currently working on singles and is planning a mix-tape album for the year. The lines “Nizam ki rajdhani; Hyderabad is my city” feature in all of his songs.
