If things go as planned, then there will be 100 libraries setup in the next six months and 100 Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate surgeries to be performed on Thursday. The announcement came from Chairman of Telugu Association of North America (TANA) Foundation, Sreenivasa Gogineni on Wednesday when he briefed the media about the foundation, its ongoing projects and service activities that will be carried out this year in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

“The Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate surgeries will go underway at Durga Hospitals and Smile Care Foundation in Vishakhapatnam on Thursday,” informed Sreenivasa. “A Cataract Eye Camp will be held at Pithapuram Municipal School in East Godavari District on Friday. In addition, a school library will also be inaugurated there,” he shared.

“Another mega Health Camp with cancer screening and cataract surgeries is planned at Tanuku Town Hall on Sunday,” informed Sreenivasa Gogineni. Further activities include infrastructure projects, such as construction of roads, funeral shelters, water schemes, community centres in villages along with supporting charity organisations like Child Aid Foundation and Centre for Social Services Hyderabad amongst others.

Speaking about the activities of the organisation in USA, he said, “TANA does other service activities in USA all around the year, such as helping students and other people on emergency situations under a programme called ‘TANA TEAM Square’ and various awareness camps like ‘Bone Marrow Matching’ under a programme called ‘TANA Cares’.

TANA also responds to catastrophic incidents like cyclone and floods with large financial support.” TANA Foundation inspires and has been encouraging NRIs to donate under “ManaVoori Kosam” for the development of their own villages. “The response has been very encouraging,” informed Sreenivasa Gogineni.

Under this programme villages that need development are identified first and later are listed with the requirements. “We see funeral homes and cemeteries in the USA setup in a pleasant environment; as sending off a loved one in a most respectful manner is considered very important.

Unfortunately, in many parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana the cemeteries and graveyards are used for every other purpose, other than for cremation. Building a funeral shelter with basic amenities costs a minimum of $10,000 (approx Rs 6,68,500).

TANA Foundation is supporting and guiding the donors for executing these in their villages,” informed Sreenivas Gogineni.
