Preventive Health Initiative, launched by Nightingales Home Health Services (NHHS) includes providing a vaccination to fight monsoon diseases at one’s doorstep. On receiving a call on the phone numbers provided, the company will send a certified nurse for the job.

As the countdown for monsoon has already begun, the nursing and paramedic team at Nightingales home health services are all set to fight flu and other monsoon diseases by spreading the message of vaccination and also administering them at the comfort of the homes of people in the city.

One of the most dreaded viruses to watch out for is the H1N1 virus and health experts are expecting the infection to return during the rainy season. According to WHO, vaccines are the most effective ways of safeguarding oneself from contracting the illness during influenza epidemics and pandemics.

Influenza vaccination will bring down the morbidity and mortality rate in people with illness like diabetes and hypertension and other conditions with low immunity. According to Clinical Director of NHHS Dr Vijay Agarwal, senior citizens, children (especially below two years) and pregnant women are in the high risk category as they have less immunity.

This has been proven by the swine flu deaths in the city where the patient was either a diabetic or had hypertension. Sudhaker Jadhav, Regional Head of NHHS said, "Unfortunately in our country the awareness levels for preventive vaccination for influenza virus is very low compared to the western countries as everybody take their annual flu shots there.”

“The most common issues during monsoon are Malaria, typhoid, cholera, viral fever and stomach infections, looking it all these issues around its always good to get vaccinated with a note from the consulting doctor,” he added. Nightingales recently concluded administering more than 3000 vaccinations for employees at a large corporate.
