The GHMC Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy said that the Corporation has intensified relief operations across the city in view of heavy down pour for the last two days.
The GHMC Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy said that the Corporation has intensified relief operations across the city in view of heavy down pour for the last two days. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the Commissioner informed that 200 emergency teams and about 25,000 personnel have been deployed to tackle the situation. “Entire administration is on alert in view of Indian Metrology Department (IMD) forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next two days,” he said.
An emergency convergence meeting with all the line departments was conducted to tackle the situation, to prepare for coming 48 hours. The National Disaster Response Team and Fire Department have also been involved. “They are being provided boats and arrangements have been made for de-watering the cellars and other points of water stagnation,” he said. “Citizens can get the accurate information of the weather forecast from imd.gov.in,” he added.
Dr Reddy also informed that excess flow of the water from Hussainsagar was being released and people living in low lying areas were being shifted to safer places. He appealed to the residents living in dilapidated buildings to vacate the same for their safety. The GHMC Commissioner appealed the citizens to utilise emergency number 100 only in situations like heavy rains etc., to solve their grievances at once. “For regular grievances, the citizens may call on the number 040-21111111,” he said.
Replying to a query, HMWS&SB MD Dana Kishore said that the Water Board was investigating into the hole in front of NTR Gardens. He said that the works would be completed in a week’s time. He appealed to the citizens not to open manhole covers and to cooperate with the department to prevent any untoward incidents during heavy rains. Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said that the entire police administration was on field to tackle the emergency situation. He said that the police was concentrating on traffic regulations.
