As part of a nation-wide campaign to generate awareness about importance of energy, a drawing competition was conducted for students of St. Thomas SPG High School on Wednesday.

The students created art on the topic ‘Future of Nuclear Energy’ to dispel the misconceptions related to nuclear energy. Ninth standard student Srisha Rao stood first in the competition and eight standard’s Govardhan Reddy came second.

About 170 students participated in the competition, which was organised on behalf of Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), a Government of India undertaking.

Speaking after the event, Principal P Surya said that children’s expressions are an indication of their creativity. “The children portrayed the importance of energy in a very creative manner and had also showed how the production of electricity from nuclear energy does not harm the environment,” he said.

On the occasion comics based on Budhiya, a fictional character that motivates villagers to support nuclear power, were distributed among the students. A special three-part animated film on the same character was also screened.
