Asian Bariatrics showcased its success of providing complete relief to obese diabetic patients through a surgery 'Ileal Interposition, Sleeve with Loop Bipartition'.

Diabetes and bariatric surgeon, Dr Surendra Ugale and Dr Srinivasa Rao Surapaneni, Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon, Asian Bariatrics, Hyderabad, briefed media about the procedure recently.

“Several patients who got treated by this surgery, were mighty relieved of living without the daily agonising chore of checking blood sugar levels and strongly and consuming pills, vouched for the surgery,” said Dr Ugale on the occasion.

Three diabetic patients underwent the surgery and were present on the occasion. The doctors spoke about how this surgery made a difference in their lives.

“Changing lifestyles, stress, untimely eating habits, consuming junk food, lack of exercise, have all contributed to obesity and diabetes rising to epidemic levels especially amongst the youth in India.

Obesity in turn can lead to severe health repercussions like cardiovascular disease, thyroid, diabetes, sleep apnea, infertility etc,” warned the doctor. “Last thing obese and diabetics should be afraid of is undergoing this surgery.

Instead they should be perturbed about the heart attacks and other complications associated with these health disorders in the long run. There is a certain way of doing all this very safely and Asian Bariatric is a pioneer in this,” said Dr Ugale.

He cautioned patients that an early surgical treatment can return their life to normalcy and help lessen the burden of complications of heart attack, kidney failure, stroke, neuropathy and retinopathy in such diabetics in addition to medication and cost associated.

“Diabetics with or without obesity, can now get rid of increased sugar levels with a single surgery. Metabolic surgery can help large number of diabetics. Especially those with low weight struggling with uncontrolled diabetes despite taking medications including insulin and following diet and exercise regiment, can immensely benefit from this,” he said.

“These surgeries are not painful at all and the average hospital stay doesn't exceed two nights. The patients generally walk into the Operation theatre and walk out after the surgery, the same day, without any assistance. They can return to their routine within 2-3 days from discharge,” said the doctor.
