“Photography is all about freezing the best moments that reveals how beautiful and rich the reality is,” says Mahesh Gokara, who is pursing his Postdoc in Department of Biochemistry, University of Hyderabad. Gokra was recently declared the winner of the Calendar Photography Contest that was organised at the campus.

Every year the University of Hyderabad brings out its Annual Calendar based on a theme. This year it was ‘Mesoscopic Life on the Campus”. The pictures clicked by the participants were uploaded online at fotocontest.commuoh.in. The contest was open to the University fraternity and more than 200 entries were received for it. Out of which 12 were shortlisted and the winner chosen.

The pictures submitted by Mahesh which received highest likes for the contest was a deadly spider whose web was glittering at the night due to the moist it grabbed and seemed as to if was perfectly bejeweled. Speaking to the CityTAB Mahesh, who has already won two national awards, says, “Photography is my passion. And these contests act like a fuel to it. I never thought I had these skills towards my interest, but my friends appreciated my work and pushed me to move forward.”

Elaborating on his technique, he says, “I am more into street photography. The beauty, which many of us tend to miss, is portrayed in my pictures. There is beauty in every little thing and my lens plays the work of showing how beautiful they are.” “I submitted two pictures for the contest, one was the spider and the other is a red bug. Surprisingly both were selected and the spider received maximum likes,” says a “speechless” Mahesh.

So, does he want to become a photographer? “No. I want to become a scientist. At the same time I don’t want to leave my passion for photography. I want to balance both and have no regrets in future,” concludes the youngster. Here’s wishing him luck for what life offers him!
