The morning of March 1 saw many Christians including Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, and Roman Catholics marking the first day of their Lenten fast as part of ‘Ash Wednesday’. The day is set aside to remind those who believe that they are dust and to dust they shall return.

The morning of March 1 saw many Christians including Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, and Roman Catholics marking the first day of their Lenten fast as part of ‘Ash Wednesday’. The day is set aside to remind those who believe that they are dust and to dust they shall return.

A Parish Priest is seen marking the symbol of cross with ash on the forehead of a devotee at St Mary’s Basilica in Secunderabad as part of the day. From this day onwards Christians believe to stay in abstinence and prayer while attending the stations of the cross (the 14 stages from Jesus’ condemnation to his burial in the tomb) on Wednesdays and Fridays every week.
