Ranga Shirsha Theatre Group in association with Department of Language and Culture, Government of Telangana, staged a play ‘Baaki Itihaas’ on Monday at Ravindra Bharati. Directed by Kondal Reddy, a PhD scholar in Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, the play ‘Baaki Itihaas’ is written by renowned playwright Badal Sarkar.

The tastefully decorated set cost around Rs one lakh and it is also the most expensive play in the history of Telugu theatre. The play explores the story of a common man right from birth, education, marriage, family and death.

It revolves around Sitanath, a middle-class man, who commits suicide. His friend Sharad and his wife Vasanti try to figure out the reason behind Sitanath’s suicide. Both of them write stories out of their imaginations and in the end Sitanath’s ghost explains the real reason for his death.

The 75-minute play keeps the interest of the audience hooked with its deep narrative and powerful dialogues. With a gripping script ‘Baaki Itihas’ is a perfect example of how humans search for new goals in their lives. It showcases how people are not satisfied with their routine jobs and want to break the shackles of monotony.

The actors Laxmikanth, Santhosh, Vasanthi and Kanakam mesmerised the audience with their superb performance and the light and sound system was very well used and it elevated the performances and made the play more interesting.
