The weekly initiative started by the Pullela Gopichand Academy, ‘Physical Literacy Days’ in Gachibowli coincided with the ‘World Disability Day’ this Sunday. Although the main highlight of the event was the promotion of ‘Earth Hour’ by citizen forum, Hyderabad Urban Makeover (HUM), the initiative held a host of events to promote the concept of staying fit.

This included yoga by Dr Mani Pavitra and Preethi Rao Errabelli, classical dance by Anita Peter, speakers corner by ‘The Urban Fight’, Zumba by Abhimanika Yadav, Acapella dance by Venu, cycling by Kondapur Health Club, Boxing by Bcube Boxing, kids games, fitness challenge by Grycs, a kids gardening workshop and physical literacy through farming awareness by Farm Tours.

Professor Shyam Sunder Reddy from IIIT gave a moving speech on Earth Hour, which will be on March 25 from 8.30am to 9.30am. He also spoke about natural farming and harvesting. Later, representatives of HUM in association with WWF India informed about special events it will conduct to create awareness about how an individual can take small steps towards the cause.

Other people who spoke on the topic included Farida Tampal Regional Director, WWF India; NS Prasad Global Climate Change coordinator; Vishala Reddy Destination Marketing specialist, community enabler; Kalpana Ramesh, Architect, terrace farming, water harvesting and gardening; Deepthi Reddy Madugula Entrepreneur, Farm Tours, Organic Food; Deepak Rao Venepally – Organic Farming; Prashanth Bachu Urban Transport, WRI India and Dr Pavitra Yarlagadda Orthodontist, Child birth specialist and yoga coach.
