As part of ‘Zero Hunger’ initiative, members of Hyderabad Youth Assembly (HYA) created awareness about kitchen gardening among about 1,000 villagers in Chinna Golkonda recently.

“We started the event by splitting up and going door to door to every house in the village. Under the guidance of the Department of Horticulture, we prepared extensive matter on the exact procedure of kitchen gardening, nutritive values of the vegetables that can be cultivated through this technique, the advantages and benefits of kitchen gardening and other farming methods like organic farming and roof top farming,” informed Alekhya, a member of the NGO, Street Cause.

“We also prepared some matter on how kitchen gardening can be done through the reuse of waste materials like plastic bottles, which we explained to each household in detail. Then we provided them with a packet of seeds that contained tomatoes, brinjals, and two types of green and leafy vegetables. We distributed around 200 packets of seeds in total,” she said.
