International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) in association with T-Hub organised a panel discussion on ‘Creativity in Innovation’ at T-Hub on Tuesday. Music director AR Rahman, film sound designer Resul Pookutty and Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary, Telangana participated in the discussion. Author Birad Yajnik moderated the panel discussion.

Speaking at the event the Academy Award-winning music director AR Rahman said, “My mother knew that I will succeed in music. She motivated me to choose music as my career. I stopped working for other composers in 1986 and I started to create my own compositions. I believe that if one is good enough then they will surely achieve success. The thing which we have to do is to find a way where we master everything.”

Sharing about the difference between the music in India and other countries, Rahman said, “Everywhere in the world, the passion for music is the same. The cultural difference plays a key role in India compared to other countries. Other countries have little more opportunities when compared to India. But platforms like YouTube and social media helps people to explore their talent without any limits. Collaboration is important in every field.”

AR Rahman also said that working in many languages is a different experience. “When it comes to music working in other languages is different. The style of the composition also varies as per the language. We need to change as per the locality,” AR Rahman added.

Resul Pookutty, sound designer, sound editor and mixer shared, who won an Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for the runaway hit film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ shared, “Stability and hard work are important to achieve success in any field. It’s a great feeling to win Oscar Award from Asia in the field of sound.

When I was doing ‘Saawariya’, I got a call from the ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ team. I met the director Danny Boyle and he said that he wants to shoot the film in India. For this film, I worked in the some noisiest locations in the world. At that time I thought that ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is a small-budgeted film and nobody is going to watch it and my reputation will remain intact.”
