Good food for cats

The pet food manufacturer Mars International, the company that makes ‘Pedigree’ poet food, in collaboration with Whiskas, the company that makes and sells cat food, conducted an event to promote cat adoption in India. Nitin Kulkarni, Director, Corporate Affairs, Mars India, Ganesh Ramani, Managing Director, Mars India, Dr. K G Umesh, Waltham Scientific Communication Manager, Mars India and Madhur Khanna, Brand Manager of Whiskas were present at the promotional event held recently at Ashok Hitech Chambers, Banjara Hills.

Speaking on the occasion Nitin Kulkarni said, “We are into this business since 2001, I have seen growth of cats’ food category since last 15 years.” Dr. K G Umesh shared, “We have been educating customers and creating awareness for the pet food category across the country. If you look at our pet care, it is largest segment within mars globally and in India too. It contributes to the largest part of our business. Because, we believe pets make human lives better. Human can benefit a lot from pets physically, psychologically and socially.

So we just want to make this world a better place for pets. It is important to understand pet’s requirements. We help people in adopting cats and dogs. We support them by giving a knowledge, which we have gained abroad. We reach prominently to pet parents; provide them education of pet care, nutrition and what is to be done for the pet.”

Sharing about her cat food product Madhur Khanna said, “Whiskas is the brand we developed for cats. There is separate nutrient requirement for cats and we require different micro nutrient profiles for which Whiskas is specifically designed. The biggest advantage of feeding Whiskas to our cats is that it is healthy and shiny food.

Whiskas has omega 3, omega 6 and there will aid in healthy body and growth. There is vitamin A for healthy eyesight and we have vitamin D. Ganesh Ramani spoke about the increasing popularity of cats as pets, “Cats are becoming more popular than dogs. It is popular for many reasons – one of them being; with the current lifestyle it is easy to maintain cats as they don’t depend too much on their owners. Illness is very less for cats compared to other animals, cats are very intelligent, we can also leave a cat alone at home, and cats keep themselves clean and no bath is required for them. Cats are not only companions but also lower the stress of humans”
