Complex knee surgery helps 60-year-old

In a complex procedure, doctors at MaxCure Hospitals, Madhapur gave a fresh lease of life to a 60-year-old female who was suffering from arthritis in both her knees. A total knee replacement was performed on both legs in order to help the woman who also had ligamentous laxity with a severe extra articular deformity (bowing) in both her femurs secondary to a childhood neurological problem.

Informing about the procedure on Wednesday, Dr Chandrasekhar, Orthopaedic Surgeon at MaxCure said, “In a normal situation she would have required a complex procedure to correct the deformity by cutting the bone and also perform a complex knee replacement surgery.

This would have meant a prolonged recovery and extra cost for the patient, however with a help of computer navigation surgery a femoral corrective osteotomy (cutting the bone) was avoided and an excellent outcome could be achieved by normal primary replacement with minimal morbidity to the patient.”

“Patient was able to walk again independently, pain free after the procedure All this was possible because of excellent surgical expertise, computer navigation surgery, minimally invasive technique and excellent pain management protocols,” he added.
