A city-based voluntary body, Sharia Faisla Board will work towards finding solutions to domestic disputes within the Muslim community. The decision was unanimously taken by the group in the city on Wednesday in which it was mentioned that the ‘Board’ will work as an arbitrator under the ‘Arbitration and Conciliation Act’ to resolve minor/major disputes between two parties on issues concerning Nikah, Talaq, Qula and maintenance. Besides having a central body of 61 members, the board will have regional and zonal panels as well.

Convenor of the ‘Board’, Mustaq Malik, said that Muslims follow Islam and the divine law of Shariah without any force or coercion. Further, he said that they do not accept any interference in Shariah and would never agree to even debate any of its aspects.

“Triple Talaq is valid but the person who gives it will be answerable in front of God. Although, according to the Islamic law, giving Triple Talaq is not compulsory. If anyone violates Shariah, then Muslims have faith that he/she would be held accountable before the almighty Allah on the day of final judgment,” he said.

He also said that 13 ‘Board’ members are Muftis associated with leading religious institutions. “The rate of divorce is eminently negligible among Muslims compared to other communities. However, small disputes pertaining to 'nikah' and 'talaaq' are acquiring increasing amount of media space that is causing a lot of confusion within the community and the other countrymen,” he said.
