The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is expecting to fast-track its proposed ‘Way Side Amenities’ at 11 interchanges on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is expecting to fast-track its proposed ‘Way Side Amenities’ at 11 interchanges on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

In the first place, the move will serve two proposes. Not only can it generate revenue for authority but also go a long way in keeping a check on possible encroachments.

Having submitted the project proposal to the government, the officials are expecting a go-ahead by month-end. Incidentally, work on the project has taken off on a pilot basis at Pedda Amberpet (National Highway Nine). On completion, the Authority is expecting a revenue of nearly Rs four crore in the very first year.

The ‘Way Side Amenity’ is proposed to be taken up on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis. The major focus will be on ensuring the perfect getaway spot for the travelers wishing to take a break.

“Given the open space that is available at the spots that have been identified for the purpose, the way side amenities will have Iconic tower, multipurpose event venue, health care centre, parking lots, vehicle service centre, fuel station, food court, restaurants, ATMs, FOBs and children play areas, besides budget hotels for overnight halts,” a senior official said.

He pointed out that they hoped to save land from encroachments by putting in place round-the-clock all-year activities. The official said that in accordance with advice from IIDC, the Authority will complete a project in two years of signing with a partner.
