The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has embarked on a mission to develop lakes across the city and the civic body began the first phase on Monday.

Development of the lakes includes beautification, walkways, fencing and several other features. GHMC will develop 63 of the 185 lakes that includes Banjara, Water Kunta at JRC garden, Malkam cheruvu and Hakimpet cheruvu. Lake protection officer of GHMC Shekar Reddy said, “We have taken up Lake Beautification works in phase-1. The GHMC would spend about Rs 94.67 crore for the project and it will be completed by June.”

He claimed that the GHMC had already fenced 35 lakes and the process would be completed in time. Reddy further said that apart from Lake Beautification work GHMC has also decided to take built 20 ponds for Ganesh immersion with an estimated cost of Rs 21 crore.
