Chairman and Managing Director of CARE Hospitals Dr. B Somaraju would present the award to G N Rao at at KLN Prasad Auditorium, FATAPCCI Houseon April 30.

According to the chairman of the Foundation Narendra Luther, Dr Rao is a rare combination of a highly successful NRI who responded to the call of roots and established L.V Prasad Eye Institute in the city in 1987. Conceived as not-for-profit, comprehensive eye care facility, its motto was ‘The Three Es – Equity, Efficiency and Excellence’.

It aims to provide eye care to everyone – free for those who could not afford the cost. Going beyond this objective, the L V Prasad Eye Institute has also helped several of its most disadvantaged patients in their post-recovery empowerment.

Rao recently won international award for his work through academic honours and innumerable awards. He played a pivotal role in the adoption of the Right to Sight by the World Health Organization.

Yudhvir Foundation was set up on April 10, 1991 to commemorate the life and work of late Yudhvir, who started Daily Hindi Milap. The main aim of the Foundation is to propagate his noble ideals and to honour those who contribute to national integration, social service and service in any field of human endeavour.

The award consists of a citation and a cash reward of Rs one lakh. The earlier awardees include former Vice-Presidnet Krishna Kant, Khushwant Singh, former Prime Ministers Dr Manmohan Singh, IK Gujral, BPR Vithal, Dr UR Rao, Manjari Sinha, Dr Soma Raju, Dr. K Anji Reddy, Ramoji Rao, Dr Jayaprakash Narayan, Pandit Jasraj, Narendra Rai Srivastav, Raj Bahadur Gour, Kamla and Jagdish Mittal, Shankar S Melkote, Shyam Benegal, Shaik Subhani, Dr A Saibaba Goud, Prof Shantha Sinha and Saina Nehwal.
