The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is all set to construct nine foot over bridges (FoBs) across the city. The civic body has already issued work orders for a total of 58 proposed FoBs. Earlier, the corporation had proposed to construct 15 in phase I but following the instructions of the State Government, the GHMC had proposed finish the project in phase I. 

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is all set to construct nine foot over bridges (FoBs) across the city. The civic body has already issued work orders for a total of 58 proposed FoBs. Earlier, the corporation had proposed to construct 15 in phase I but following the instructions of the State Government, the GHMC had proposed finish the project in phase I.

According to a GHMC official, out of the total 58 proposed, the work has begun in two areas and a work order has been given to construct them at nine places. The earlier 15 FoBs, which were going to come up in National Police Academy, Shamshabad Bus Stop, IS Sadan at Santosh Nagar, Zoo Park near Bahadarpura, Muffakam Jah Engineering College in Banjara Hills, Suchitra circle (Medchal road), Chandanagar near Chennai shopping mall, Laxmi Vilas at Madinaguda, Noma functional hall ( Mallapur road), Keshaogiri, Nafees function hall near Medipuram bus stop, Ranga Bhujanga theater in Shapur nagar, Sai Sudheer college in AS Rao Nagar, Jeedimetla bus stop and ECIL bus stop.

The GHMC official said that the Hyderabad Metro Rail construction has turned to be a major obstacle to the traffic flow and for the pedestrians as they are left with no other choice other than to cross the road. The pedestrians are now crossing the roads as the existing FoBs are demolished for the construction of Metro Rail, the foot over bridge at Dilsukhnagar for instance.

When inquired about the same, the Chief Engineer of the projects, R Sridhar said that the decision of constructing foot over bridges in the city has been approved. He further said, out of 54 FoBs’ work orders, nine FoBs have been given and for the remaining, they will call for tenders by the month end.
