All ready for quarter finals

AV College, Omega Club, Jubilee International Centre and Hyderabad YMCA entered the quarter final of the first Samuel Vasanth Kumar Memorial Basketball Tournament for Men conducted by Sports Writers Association of Telangana (SWAT).

In a close match with both sides fighting for every possession and basket, Jubilee International Centre downed NPA Club Shivrampally 70-63 after leading 33-31 at the half time.

Gangadhar using his mighty frame proved unstoppable in the restricted area as he top scored with 24 points followed by Loka with 17 and Arvind Krishna 10 points for the winner.

For NPA, Vasu scored 12, Bhupinder 11. AV College fought back superbly in the second half against CMRIT on way to registering a narrow 44-42 win after trailing 20-26 at half time.

Zaki and Balaji struck a perfect combination and with accurate shooting scored 14 and 13 points respectively while Anvit top scored for the loser with 20 points and the next best was Pande with 11 points.

Omega Club scored an easy 62-40 win over Sharp Shooters with Arun Kumar leading the scorers tally with 21 points, Sreenivas scoring 15 points and Vishnu Vardhan 10 for the winner.

For the loser Manideep Yadav, Sushanth Yadav and Sardar Joginder Singh were the prominent scorers with 15 points, 11 points and 10 points respectively.

YMCA Hyderabad once again were well served by Richie, Vinay Samuel and Ansari as they defeated Secunderabad Club 62-60. For the loser, Aman scored 19 and Rohan 18.

Victory Playground entered the quarter final with a comfortable 50-18 win over St George’s being played at their home ground on Saturday.
