The team of doctors of gastroenterology department at Maxcure Hospitals informs of a rise in the number of young patients visiting due to liver problems. All these liver diseases are due to excessive intake of alcohol that has become a risky “fashion” opine the doctors.

Speaking at the press meet on Wednesday, Dr Asha Subbalakshmi, Sr Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at MaxCure said, “Alcohol is metabolised through liver, hence its toxicity over years plays an important role in liver diseases. But, this young generation ignores all warnings causing disease progression.”

On the occasion, Dr Madhusudhan - Surgical Gastroenterologist and Liver Transplant Surgeon at the hospital briefed about a case the team had worked a year ago in which the patient had to undergo liver transplant due to end-stage disease.

“Now, two weeks post-surgery the patient is able to live a normal life,” he said. “It's important that we understand the damages of alcohol and the consequences due to heavy drinking,” he warned.

The team of doctors who performed the surgery included Dr Ashasubbalakshmi, Dr Madhusudhan, Dr Phani, Dr Vinodh, Dr RR Reddy, Dr Sunitha, Dr Raghu and Dr Samhit.
