To show the importance of education for girl child in Islam, a documentary film ‘IQRA’ was recently screened at the conference hall, HK Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies, MANUU Campus.

The award winning documentary ‘IQRA’, a hope for women highlighting the importance of girl child education in Islam has been produced by Zafar Sareshwala, Chancellor, MANUU. It talks about how illiteracy among women in the Indian subcontinent is a big issue and even bigger is the issue among Muslim women.

Also, among a large section of the Muslim community, there is a big misconception that Islam prohibits education of women. Unfortunately, this misconception prevails so much that this has become a popular notion that Islam is against the freedom of women and it prohibits their education.

However, neither Islam nor its scriptures anywhere prohibit women from the right to education. This documentary unravels the reasons of these misconceptions as well as explores solutions to this web of a problem.

The film is produced by Zafar Sareshwala and directed by Mohammad Faizan. The film is a winner of Special Festival Mention at the 6th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival - 2016, winner of Special Festival Mention and Special Jury Mention at the 3rd Noida Film Festival - 2016, and also the official selection at Woodpecker International Film Festival - 2016.
