About 500 people participated at the third ‘Lupus Walk’ near Jalavihar on Necklace Road on Sunday. The event was organised by Rheumatology Association, Hyderabad Chapter in association with KIMS Hospitals and was aimed to create awareness about Lupus that can affect person of any age group. The medical and non-medical staff, doctors and senior executives were a part of the Walk.

The event was organised by Rheumatology Association, Hyderabad Chapter in association with KIMS Hospitals and was aimed to create awareness about Lupus that can affect person of any age group. The medical and non-medical staff, doctors and senior executives were a part of the Walk.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sarath Chandra Mouli, President-Hyderabad Chapter, Rheumatology Association and Clinical Director, Department of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology, KIMS Hospitals, expressed happiness at the turnout and thanked all the participants who became a part of the mission.

“Lupus erythematosus, commonly referred to as Lupus is an autoimmune issue where human immune system becomes hyper active and effects healthy tissues. This causes a wide range of health complications including chest pain, join pains, ulcers, hair loss, allergy to sunlight, tiredness and rash to mention a few,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the awareness levels globally are low because of which, either there is a delay in diagnosis or there is misdiagnosis of symptoms. It is a global health problem that affects people of all any age-group, demographics, genders, regions and climatic conditions,” he said.
