Garbage has been piling up at areas with least public activity at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) for months now.

Garbage has been piling up at areas with least public activity at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) for months now. Garbage collected from the bus stop is thrown carelessly in open spaces within the surrounding areas and the water body surrounding the bus station.

However, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) claim that several attempts to complaint to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have been ignored.

Musi River flowing right underneath the bridge is leading to MGBS’s pathetic state. Every nook and corner of MGBS has been piled up with garbage and solid waste. Some places include parking lots and empty spaces.

Naresh (36), a local shop vendor narrates that the garbage picked up from the bus station has no other place to be dropped, as a result of which all of it is thrown into the river.

“I have been seeing this for a months now. Garbage initially overflows from the dustbins, looking at which, the cleaners pick it up and throw it right outside the bus station,” he said.

When the TSRTC officials were asked about the same subject, they said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been turning a blind eye to the issue for several months now. “The issue comes under GHMC whom we have contacted several times.

Recent Parking contractor cleaned the parking area and got the garbage out of the place. Now the garbage from that place has to be thrown in the surrounding areas if the GHMC keeps delaying.

We cannot take responsibility for that,” they said. Even after repeated complaints, the civic body officials failed to respond.
