As part of its efforts to recognise and celebrate lives of those who battled cancer, American Oncology Institute (AOI) honoured the spirit of cancer survivors at their premises over the weekend.

The event was organised as part of the ‘National Cancer Survivors Day’ in the presence of Dr M Babaiah, Medical Director, AOI Hyderabad and Nilesh Gupta, Facility Director, AOI Hyderabad. It had a gathering of hundreds survivors, their families and friends.

The occasion was aimed at empowering patients, families and the society at large to make informed decisions regarding every aspect of cancer care right from prevention, diagnosis and treatment options.

Speaking at the event, Dr Babaiah said, “Cancer is curable. Today we are able to cure about 50-60 per cent of all cancers because of advancement in technology in all fields of cancer treatments which are surgical oncology, medical oncology and radiation oncology.

New technologies play a vital role to control several cancers. New technology includes treatment options like Rapid arc, IGRT, IMRT etc. Several drugs have been innovatively introduced to control cancer and also several drugs combat side effects of chemotherapy.”

Gupta shared, “National Cancer Survivors Day is a day when we celebrate the inspirational stories of real life heroes. The people who have been on a difficult journey, but never lost hope. It is a recognition of their incredible grit, zest for life and self-belief. We are happy to share that AOI is the reason behind many of these smiles.”

On the occasion, AOI Hyderabad launched “Roshni” a support group dedicated to providing education, screening, prevention and support for cancer.

It is an initiative that focuses on building community level awareness while providing cancer education, emotional support, financial assistance and guidance to underserved patients and celebrating survivors.
