It is that time of year when kids go into a frenzy about buying merchandise stuff for their school needs. It just not about stationery or bags, kids like to buy anything and everything with their favourite characters printed on it. With the market offering so many options, it’s not just children, parents are also enamoured by this merchandise

This time 3D bags are in vogue. The superheroes and Barbie 3D bags merchandise range starts from Rs 1,499 and goes up to Rs 2,311. For girls mostly Disney and Frozen bags remain all-time favourites and are out of stock as of now. The range begins from Rs 1,299 and goes up to Rs 2,699.
While there is a few all season merchandise like the Doraemon, Spiderman, Superman and Disney Princess; every year there are one or two characters that suddenly gain in popularity. This year 3D bags of Minions, Avengers and Ferrari are selling like hotcakes.
In water bottles and lunch boxes sections merchandise of Minions, Barbie and Avengers are ruling the roost. The range starts from Rs190 and goes up to Rs 500. Stationery items like 3D stickers, different types of erasers such as Avengers, Spiderman and dinosaurs are the popular ones.
The range starts from Rs 99 and goes up to Rs 300. Kids can also buy a washable marker and colour pencil which are non-toxic; price starts from Rs 400 and set of marker maker for kids for Rs 3000.
After a long summer vacation, the schools in the city are all set to reopen on June 12. Children have already started buying their school kits such as bags, pencil boxes, bottles and lunchboxes.
The popular among the bags are the motifs of popular animation characters like ‘Chhota Bheem’, ‘Doraemon’, ‘Spiderman’, ‘Sponge Bob Square Pants’, Frozen ‘Barbie’ among others. Kids prefer to buy their school stuff with one of their favourite characters printed on their school kits.
Paarth said, “I am going to Class II this year and I am thinking to purchase a bag with Spiderman printed on it, however, our school does not allow students to bring fancy kits. They give us leather bags and we have to use that only. But I take a water bottle, pencil box, etc, to school which has my favourite character imprinted on them. I also have an umbrella which has Spiderman printed on it.”
Naurish Nizam, from Pebble Creek Life School, Thumkunta, said, “I like all cartoon characters, however, Barbie is my favourite. Right now I have sling bag, which has an imprint of Barbie. From this year our school has changed its rules, earlier we could bring whatever bags we wanted, however, from this year onwards we have to carry only a sling bag, normal water bottle, pencil boxes, etc. We have to keep all notebooks and textbooks in school lockers so the need of bags will not be there.”
Samarth said, “This year I am planning to buy a bag with Iron Man printed on it as he is my favourite superhero. Next year I will buy a Pokémon bag because it is my favourite cartoon series.”
Mrinmaye, who is studying in Class V said, “I want to buy a school bag, three pencil boxes, and colour pencils kit with Doraemon characters printed on it. I want to buy it because the characters are so funny and lovable. Dora is my next favourite cartoon character.”
