Indian Red Cross Society, Telangana State Branch and Bangalore based NGO, Nightingales Medial Trust (NMT) had jointly set up India’s largest Dementia Day Care Centre with the capacity to manage over 50 patients a day, on March 30 in Banjara Hills.

Indian Red Cross Society, Telangana State Branch and Bangalore based NGO, Nightingales Medial Trust (NMT) had jointly set up India’s largest Dementia Day Care Centre with the capacity to manage over 50 patients a day, on March 30 in Banjara Hills.

NMT is offering the services for the elderly and persons with dementia in the country. The Day Care Centre at Banjara Hills provides a range of services including cognitive stimulation, physiotherapy and therapeutic activities incorporating music, movements, reminiscence and personnel interaction.

Special attention has been given to ensure that the environment at the centre is dementia friendly and staff is trained in managing patients in all stages of the disease. Day care services provide family members with the much needed respite during the day so they can attend to their daily chores and be sure that their loved one is also cared for by professionals.

Apart from Dementia, the Centre also provides day care and rehabilitation services for Stroke, Parkinson’s and other chronic neurological and mental health illnesses in geriatric population NMT conducted a caregivers support and education programme workshop for the people who want help dementia on June 15. Resource persons for the workshop were Dr Madhuri, Psychiatrist and Sruthi, Psychologist.The programme was held at Red Cross-Nightingales Trust, Dementia Day Care Centre.
