Health Minister pats docs at Gleneagles Global Hospitals

Health Minister C Laxma Reddy visited Gleneagles Global Hospitals at Lakdikapul and congratulated the organisation and surgeons for the four successful heart transplantations in a month.

All the four patients were in end-stage heart failure with severe breathlessness and could not walk and could not do any daily routine activities. All treatment options including stents / devices etc. were exhausted, and underwent successful heart transplant.

Heart Transplantation is procedure recommended by doctors in cases of end stage heart failure, when medications no longer improve the patient’s condition requiring frequent hospitalisation.

Generally Heart Transplantation is recommended for the patients who are suffering from advanced coronary artery disease, advanced valve problems or related to birth defect and cardiomyopathy As per projections there are at least 8–10 million patients with HF in India with a prevalence of about one per cent adult population Telangana has highest cardiac related deaths over the last few years and one out of every five heart failure patient dies at the end of one year of diagnosis, said Dr Sai Sudhakar, Chief Cardiac Transplant Physician, Glenegales Global Hospitals, Hyderabad.
