Defying all odds

Cinema is a great medium of communication and attracts many young people who either want to be a hero, villain or any other role than they can bag to settle in the field industry and in the process, come to the city to test their luck.

Adilabad-based Ramesh Kishan Goud is a filmmaker who came to Hyderabad the same way. He did Master of Performing Arts from SN School of Arts and Communication, UoH in 2003. He made many short films.

His first regular movie, ‘Mr Item-An antic piece’ is releasing this Friday (July 28). Speaking with The Hans India, he shared his story of struggle. “I was interested in movies since my childhood. Till now I did many short films on children and art.

I started making this movie in May last year and completed within 45-days. This February, I got U/A certificate for the film from Censor Board but I couldn’t find any theatre to release my film. My friend was the producer and spent Rs 20 Lakh for this movie. I do not even have enough money for previewing this movie for celebrities of the film industry,” shares Ramesh Kishan Goud.

He managed to get five theatres in the city to release his film. He says, “In Old-City, the owner of Yakut Mahal accepted to screen my film. Adding to it, I got four more in city and I am hoping there will be many after the release. We also managed to get some theatres in Nanded, Bidar, Pharbani, Mahabubnagar, Adilabad, and Nirmal.”

“I went to many theatres for release but they said to me that I have to pay theatre rent of 2.5lakh for the release,” he laments. The film revolves around a constable’s son, who wants to take revenge against a mafia don, for killing his father. Unfortunately, nothing goes in his way but in the end, he manages to finish his job. It is a comedy and Ramesh is also playing the lead role.

“The movie is a typical Hyderabad film and it reflects the Old-City culture. This movie will be liked by film lovers as earlier films like ‘Hyderabad Blues’ and ‘The Angrez’,” he adds.

“Many people make this kind of films with Rs 70 lakh budgets but end up collecting only 20 lakhs despite great content and work, only due to fewer theatres,” he opines.

To make his film available to more audience, he will be screening it in the ‘Cinevaaram’ section where people can watch it free of cost at Ravindra Bharathi. Ramesh hopes word of mouth will catch on and he is confident of success.
