Daira Centre for Arts and Culture is coming up with a painting exhibition of Girish Kulkarni of Gulbarga titled ‘Whirlpool of Materialism’ from July 28 at its premises in Banjara Hills. Girish has completed his Masters in Arts from the MMK College of Visual Arts, Gulbarga. The paintings reflect the constant thoughts of Girish about the contemporary situations.

Most of the works are symbolic with a dialogue into the past or the present and take the viewer into a thought process of the materialistic world. Sometimes there could be a question mark about how the present situation has made many beautiful childhood memories and important things irrelevant in the present century. There is a child in each one of us.

The artist has very successfully shown how our childish thoughts for the modern comforts have started to dominate our present world of thoughts keeping aside the quest for love, friendship or knowledge. The artist feels that materialistic, mental and spiritual fabric of human existence in the contemporary times is something that time and again keeps reflecting on his canvas.

In many paintings, one can see the child having fairy wings and trying to play around with toy horses. Even adult images have childhood elements surrounding them showing the stark contrast of thoughts. The exhibition concludes on August 2.
