On the occasion of National Handloom Day, the Telangana Government organised Woven-2017, a fashion event to promote handlooms, at Hitex, the event was inaugurated by IT Minister K Taraka Ramarao. Samantha Ruth Prabhu, brand ambassador of handlooms, Telangana Government, Naga Chaitanya, Adah Sharma, Mithali Raj, PV Sindhu, VVS Laxman, Jwala Gutta were attended the event in support of weavers.

Designer Sailesh Singhania has adopted this cluster of 70 forgotten weavers and extended technical and material support to revive their craft. All requirements for creating high quality weaves like Yarns, Zaris for warping, spinning, dyeing and getting the looms ready for Jacard and Jala technique were supplied to the weavers along with proper visibility conditions.

The weavers have reciprocated this assistance with challenging their dexterity on the loom and are creating stunning luxurious saris. The Pranpur Sari is intricately handwoven, interspersed with delicacy of the extra weft motifs that has, for times immemorial, satisfied the refined tastes of Indian royalty.

Each sari from the Pranpur weave collection has an unmatched sophistication; the pure mulberry silk saree is lightweight, sheer textured, glossy and has a fine feel to it. The sarees are embellished with golden ‘zari’ borders and delicate and unique motifs inspired by picking elements from ‘Thanjavur’ paintings.

The colours used to dye the yarns are all natural colours and their name derived from natural things like ‘Pyaazi’ for pink, ‘Totai’ for green, ‘Tamatari’for red, ‘Badaami’ for almond, etc.

The transparency of the saree is one of its qualities and has been derived from extra fine yarn used both in warp and weft of different varieties and the weave configurations. Each of these handwoven beauties takes four months to get off the loom. These saris are lovingly addressed as Rachita weaves that tell the tale of revival, heritage and reconnecting with our sacred roots.
