Hyderabad-based Mamta Trivedi, who was representing Telangana in the Mrs India Pageant 2017, won the title Mrs India Classic. Mamta is now all geared up to represent India at international competitions. After getting crowned she said that she acquired more responsibilities after winning the title. In an exclusive interview with The Hans India she shared her journey to the title.

Excerpts:

How do you feel after being crowned as the ‘Mrs India Classic’?
Extremely elated! I feel that I am on the top of the world. I never dreamt that I win the pageant. Being crowned was not an easy task. There was so much of hard work I put into it and it paid.

Who was your inspiration to participate in this contest?
My father taught me discipline and time management in life and I consider him as my greatest asset. Also, Deepali Phadnis, who commenced this pageant. She is a huge inspiration for all the married women. And I also admire Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan because of the way she balances her personal and professional life.

Talk about the awareness campaigns that you have conducted to educate rural women on the mental health. To address the daily life problems faced by the rural women, I personally visited a couple of remote villages called Ramgarh and Mittapur near Azamgarh in Benaras. The women there encounter numerous issues that include sanitation problem, malnourishment, dowry harassment and lack of higher secondary education. I’m also planning to visit a few schools and NGOs in the city to speak about depression among children.

What is your take on your short film ‘Let’s open up on depression’?
When I visited some colleges, I spoke to students about their education and most of them seemed to not like what they are doing. They even confessed that their parents forced them into taking up a particular course. So, I wanted to focus on this issue and send a message to the parents about how such forced decisions can lead to depression in students. My daughter, Preksha helped me a great deal to complete the film.

What is your strategy for winning the international pageant?
The primary task is to work on the wardrobe and I’m lucky in that aspect because the person who walked on Cannes is ready to design my clothes. Also, I’m spending much of my time reading and knowing what’s happening around the world.
