Citizens Specialty Hospital launched a special sponsored bariatric surgery programme for weight reduction and metabolic disorders on Wednesday. The hospital reiterated that bariatric surgery is one of the most reliable as well as proven weight loss procedures that help not only in combating obesity but also by curing several metabolism related disorders, such as hypertension, diabetes, orthopaedic ailments, sleep apnea, etc.

The programme is led by Dr Suresh Chandra Hari, a pioneer in general, laparoscopic and bariatric surgery, with more than a decade of experience in bariatric surgery. Under the initiative, the hospital invited people with more than 125 kgs or with a BMI of over 35 to participate in a programme to lose weight within next 15 days. During this period, participants will be guided by the doctors and dieticians of the hospital’s bariatric team.

Those who lose maximum weight within the given time frame will receive sponsored comprehensive treatment package including consultation, bariatric surgery and post-surgery rehabilitation. Addressing the presser, Nilesh Gupta, Zonal Director, Citizens Specialty Hospital, said, “Incidences of obesity are rapidly increasing and today India ranks third amongst the most obese countries in the world.

Bariatric surgery is one of the most reliable solutions for obesity, metabolic disorders and related chronic conditions. The Citizens Bariatric Programme is a confluence of a team of surgeons who, supported by the most advanced technology and dedicated facilities, offers the most advanced surgical options for obesity and its related disorders.”

Dr Hari added, “Our programme looks at bariatric surgery as a medical solution rather than a cosmetic option. Our team ensures that the surgery is done only for people who have made genuine efforts to reduce their weight and for whom the surgery is a medical necessity to lead a healthy life.”
