The Hyderabad Runners Society and Bharti Airtel announced that the seventh edition of the annual Airtel Hyderabad Marathon 2017 will have over 20,000 registered participants.

The announcement came at the trophy unveiling programme in the city on Wednesday. “The Corporate Trophy has been commissioned to encourage runners from large corporates and build awareness on promoting healthy lifestyles with running,” said Venkatesh Vijayraghavan, CEO, Bharti Airtel Andhra Pradesh & Telangana after unveiling it along with Abhijeet Madnurkar, Race Director, Airtel Hyderabad Marathon.

Madnurkar added, “In this edition, our focus first and foremost is on enhanced race amenities and ensure runners’ safety. As we constantly strive to integrate the annual sporting event into the average Hyderabadi citizen’s life, we hope to see an increased participation from local schools and communities as volunteers and cheering along the race route.”

Venkatesh remarked, “For seven years, Airtel has promoted and presented this hallmark event to Hyderabad, showcasing the thousands of wonderful stories and sharing the accomplishments of our amazing runners and participants of all levels. It’s fantastic to see that this event brings runners from all over the world to Hyderabad.”

“Join us this weekend and celebrate the camaraderie among runners,” he said. Hyderabad Runners is keen to encourage maximum citizen participation and make the event a fun-filled one. Over 50 music bands from schools, colleges and professional groups are lining up the route of the marathon to cheer runners. The prize money is Rs 7.2 lakh.

The 5K Run on August 19 is classified as a Fun Run with no prize money. However, participants in this run are encouraged to run in fun costumes to highlight their pet causes.

“We are expecting over 25,000 runners, health and fitness enthusiasts, volunteers, medical personnel, city officials and police to come together for the event. The marathon route will traverse important landmarks in the city giving the runners a picturesque view of the Hussain Sagar Lake, IT & Knowledge hub of Hitec City and Gachibowli while spreading the healthy lifestyle theme among Hyderabad denizens,” said Madnurkar.
