The first ever ‘Sight-A-Thon 2017’, a blindfold 2k walk was held in the city on Sunday. Organised by Saksham NGO the event was a joint initiative of the government and National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) to create awareness on eye donation.

The walk was flagged off at the Peoples Plaza by comedian, Ali Basha along with Maestro Gazal Srinivas. Fight masters Ram and Laxman, actor Raghu Karamanchi, and GHMC Zonal Commissioner (West) Harichandana Dasari were in attendance.

More than 1,500 participants supported the walk, which had people blindfolded and being guided by a visually-challenged team of members. "Many are suffering with blindness right from the birth or because of cornea like problems. Eye donation is the only way left to get the eye sight to these people," said Dr Veda Prakash, President Saksham Telangana and Secretary Karunakar Dr Santosh Kraleti.
