Speaking on the occasion, Fasiuddin said that the GHMC has completed arrangements for distribution of Bathukamma sarees under the Hyderabad District upto the 20th of the month. “The GHMC has undertaken extensive arrangements for distributing sarees to over seven lakh women. As part of this, sarees will be given at 688 ration shops in 92 wards spread over 16 circles in the district.”

“So far, saree stocks are stored in nine godowns; three in South Zone, four in the Central Zone and one each in North Zone, and in Secunderabad Cantonment Board.

Circle level special committees are also set up to oversee arrangements for distribution, sarees and other schedules in 15 circles. In addition, 84 supervisory committees have been constituted for each wing appointed as Engineers of Engineers, ACPs and Medical Officers of GHMC,” he said.

“The GHMC has set up saree distribution committees with local Sanitary Jawahan, Entomologist, SAFA, Anganwadi Worker, VVR, SlumLawal Federation and Town Law Federation representatives at every cheap retail outlet,” said the deputy mayor.

Women with food security will be required to submit a xerox copy of Aadhaar card or any other proof of identity. The GHMC has issued instructions on the distribution of sarees in the presence of public representatives. A special review meeting has already been set up at the deputy commissioner on handling the sarees distribution programme.

Batukhamma sarees will be distributed based on the list of beneficiaries from the Civil Supplies Department. Provision of mobile medical teams to set up banners for the convenience of the beneficiaries, water and other infrastructure at the Distribution Centres.
